Lithuanian president: “I don’t trust the minister of economy.”

Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite has expressed her distrust in the current minister of economy, Dainius Kreivys, because of his business activities.

Only recently it was revealed that the government had allocated EU funds to renovate schools to a company of which Kreivys’ family held a share. President Grybauskaite told reporters on Friday that a politician could not be businessman at the same time and said that minister Kreivys’ business activities in parallel to his political career were a sign of low political culture.

Prime minister Andrius Kubilius defended his minister saying that Kreivys’ experience in business was exactly what qualified him for the job of minister of economy and the he could not see any misbehaviour on the minister’s part.
